3 PhD scholarships available at the University of Adelaide, in the History field. Applications close end October.

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Adelaide welcomes applications for a higher degree (PhD) scholarships in conjunction with several research projects as follows:
(1) History of colonial violence in the 19th century Anglo Pacific Rim: This PhD project will focus broadly on the history of colonial violence in the nineteenth century Anglo Pacific Rim (including Australia) and its afterlife historical memory, but a more specific topic can be negotiated in conjunction with an ongoing ARC Discovery Project. (2) History of SA Performing Arts during World War I: This project brings together key South Australian performing arts institutions in order to research South Australian performing arts during the First World War as part of an ARC Linkage Project. Outputs will range from traditional, text-based offerings to performances by partner institutions.  The PhD project will be broadly historical in nature, but a more specific topic can be negotiated. (3) Organisms and Us: This project explores the changing roles and understandings of non-human organisms in 20th and early 21st century science using both historical and philosophical perspectives. The PhD project will involve integrated history and philosophy of biology, with the specific topic to be negotiated. Applicants should note that the awarding of a higher degree scholarship is dependent on external funding of this project, which at the date of this announcement is yet to be confirmed. For all of these scholarships, applicants must have a minimum of Honours 2A result or equivalent in History or equivalent relevant discipline. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia, or citizens of New Zealand, by the closing date of 31 October 2015.  Stipend: $25,849 per annum (2015 rate) tax free for up to 3 years (indexed annually). It is likely to be tax exempt, subject to Taxation Office approval. The selection panel reserves the right in its absolute discretion not to award any such scholarship in any discipline having considered any, and all, applications.
