GROUNDING THE SACRED THROUGH LITERATURE AND THE ARTS CONFERENCE, 23-26 July 2015

Pathway

You are invited to participate in this conference which brings writers, artists, musicians, academics, researchers, religious and members of the public together to discuss where creativity sits in relation to religion and the search for meaning. Are the arts a conduit between the divine and the everyday? To flourish, do we need both a sense of the sacred and the means to express it? Do the arts provide a common ground for people of different faiths – or maybe none – to explore the ineffable?
Guest presenters include Imam Afroz Ali, Carmel Bird, Kathleen Deignan (Iona Spirituality Institute), Kevin Hart (University of Virginia), Maeve Louise Heaney, David Jasper (Glasgow University), Vivien Johnson, Rachael Kohn, Genevieve Lacey, David Malouf, Michael McGirr and Thaddeus Metz (University of Johannesburg). More than 60 papers will be delivered by researchers and practitioners.
Late offers of papers relevant to the conference theme, ‘grounding the sacred through literature and the arts’, will be considered.
A post-graduate seminar, facilitated by Professors Kevin Hart, David Jasper and Thaddeus Metz, Dr Alison Jasper and Dr Dermot Nestor, will encourage interdisciplinary discussion and networking.
Registration: four day package $190 (unwaged) or $340 (waged); single days $65 (unwaged) or $95 (waged). Registration includes refreshments.
Registration is essential, preferably by 8 July 2015.
