InASA is delighted to provide an update on the 2024 Lyndall Ryan Thesis Prize.
The Lyndall Ryan Thesis Prize celebrates excellence in PhD research in the interdisciplinary field of Australian Studies. InASA is honoured to offer this $1000 prize, sponsored by the late Professor Ryan.
The 2024 judging panel — Professor Noah Riseman, Dr Jon Piccini, and inaugural winner Dr Amy Way — were impressed with the number, range, and quality of submissions, and have recommended a shortlist of six entrants:
Melanie Brand: “A Question of Trust: Secrecy and Intelligence Accountability in Cold War Australia”
Chris Cheng: “Australian Migrant Heritage in South China: The Legacy of Diaspora-Funded Schools in Twentieth Century Zhongshan”
Emily Gallagher: “The Childhood Imagination in Australia, 1890–1940”
Matthew R. Keynes: “From Courtroom to Classroom: Transitional Justice and History Education in Australia”
Rebecca Lindsay: “Settler Reading Postures: Reading Ruth in Settler Colonial Australia”
Jess Urwin: “Chain Reactions: Nuclear Colonialism in South Australia”
Congratulations to all shortlisted entrants! The winner will be announced at the InASA conference at Macquarie University, 5-7 February 2025.
