Visiting Professor in Australian Studies 2025-26 / 2026-27

The International Australian Studies Association (InASA) is excited to announce applications are now open for the Australia-Japan Foundation Visiting Professor in Australian Studies at the University of Tokyo, 2025-26 and 2026-27. InASA is seeking individual appointments for both terms.
The Visiting Professorship in Australian Studies was created in 1999 by the Centre for Pacific and American Studies (CPAS), with support from the Australia-Japan Foundation (AJF), to promote ongoing understanding and research collaboration between Australia and Japan in the area of Australian Studies.
Applications are invited from highly qualified Australian citizens with significant academic or public achievement in the fields of Australian Studies, History, Cultural Studies, Politics, Literary Studies, International Relations or other relevant areas across HASS. Located at the University of Tokyo’s Komaba Campus, the Visiting Professorship will involve teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, conference presentations, research, and promotion of Australian Studies within Japan.
The appointment is for a period of approximately 10 months and will commence late September 2025 or late September 2026. Applicants may be considered for either or both terms. The Visiting Professor is expected to spend most of the period in Tokyo engaged in research and, during semester, teaching. No language proficiency other than English is required. The position includes a competitive salary package and subsidised accommodation in Tokyo.
