Elizabeth Webby was a leading scholar who made outstanding contributions to the fields of Australian Literature, women’s writing, and Australian cultural history across a long and prestigious career. Her professional roles were characterised by her sharp intellectual insights, personal warmth, and extraordinary capacity for mentoring others, particularly women. I was privileged to work recently with Elizabeth on one of her many “retirement” projects, our co-edited book Eliza Hamilton Dunlop: Writing from the Colonial Frontier (2021), and so enjoyed collaborating with and learning from her. It is with great sadness that InASA notes her recent passing, and we know that colleagues across disciplines will be similarly moved. Our best wishes go to her beloved family in their bereavement.
