Early Career Publication Subsidy Scheme Outcomes

The ECR Publication Subsidy Scheme is designed to assist early career researchers in a publishing venture, or for the inclusion of essential items such as illustrations, photographs or maps. The selection committee for the scheme is comprised of members of the InASA Executive. This year, the committee was comprised of Zuzanna Kruk-Buchowska (Adam Mickiewicz University), Dashiell Moore (University of Sydney), and Jon Piccini (Australian Catholic University).

The following works by scholars in Australian studies will be supported by the scheme:

  • Priyanka Shivadas, Indigenous Literatures of Australia and India: A Trans Indigenous Perspective.

The committee consider that this monograph will make a significant contribution to Australian Studies through its novel comparative reading of Indigenous literatures from Australia and India, which brings the field into a trans-colonial context.

  • Archie Thomas, Yipirinya: The true school of Mparntwe.

The committee was impressed with the proposed focus on the vital and understudied history of the Indigenous self-determination movement in Australian education, as well as its interdisciplinary and collaborative approach, which will enable this title to reach broad audiences across various fields.

  • Joseph Steinberg, The Program Goes South: Australian Fiction and the Discipline of Creative Writing, 1970-2025.

The committee recognise the proposed title as pioneering research on the institutionalization of creative writing programs in Australian universities and their significant impact on the diversification of the nation’s literary landscape.
