The fourth volume in the Studies in Transnationalism book series has been published. It is by Bill Apter and is entitled Rethinking the Australian Dilemma: Economics and Foreign Policy, 1942-1957 (New York: Peter Lang Publishing, 2021). Apter’s book is based on excellent research and has a very engaging narrative. The main theme of his book: the tension between sentiment and interest is also extremely topical, considering the current predicament that Australia faces between its largest trade partner and its long-standing strategic ally. In this sense, Apter’s book provides a very useful historical context to this long-running tension in Australian history.
